Automatic wheel-blocking system AWB

Our automatic wheel-blocking system AWB offers reliable protection against accidents and damage at the loading site by preventing lorries from rolling away. It is easy to operate at the touch of a button and suitable for all types of lorries.

Loading technology Q2 2025 (April – June) Industrial and public construction projects

Danger can strike at the loading site: If a docked lorry rolls or creeps away during the loading process and the lip of the dock leveller no longer rests securely on the loading surface of the vehicle, this can seriously injure people and cause considerable damage to property. When loading with industrial trucks, this danger is always present due to the braking and starting movements of the forklift. The automatic wheel-blocking system AWB offers protection against such accidents. As soon as a lorry is correctly positioned in front of the loading platform, thanks to the integrated wheel guide, it can be activated from inside the building at the touch of a button. The driver does not have to leave the vehicle. The automatic wheel-blocking system AWB automatically moves the blocking arm into the correct position and presses it against the rear wheel of the lorry. This prevents the vehicle from rolling away uncontrollably. A warning light ensures clear communication with the driver. As soon as it switches to green after loading and releasing the AWB, the driver can drive away safely. Thanks to a working range of 2825 mm, this vehicle restraint system can be used with any wheelbase. A blocking height of 300 mm ensures that mudguards or claddings are not touched. This makes the system suitable for all lorry types. A hydraulic cylinder moves the blocking unit in and against the direction of travel. It is completely integrated into the optimally dimensioned, stable hollow steel profile and is therefore protected against dirt and adverse weather effects. The automatic wheel-blocking system AWB is easy to install as it only requires a few anchor points and can compensate for slight unevenness in the ground thanks to its height adjustment of up to 50 mm. The electrical installation is also very convenient, with the slimline data cable replaceing the time-consuming connection of conventional multi-core inputs and outputs.

The AWB is rugged, reliable and available as a version for the right or left side of the loading site. The compact control ensures intuitive operation. It is equipped with an LED control light, a key switch for bridging if necessary and a piezo signal transmitter for acoustic warning in the event of a malfunction. A mobile website with a WiFi connection supports service personnel with settings, system updates and reading out service information. The automatic wheel-blocking system AWB can be used as a stand-alone solution, but can also be connected to the 560 S/T/V dock leveller control, e.g. to implement release functions.

Good reasons for Hörmann loading technology

Quick, safe and energy-efficient operations

We think and act green

As a family business, we are very conscious of our responsibility to future generations and offer all industrial doors, operators, loading technology, construction project doors and perimeter protection systems for construction projects CO2-neutral upon request. The Hörmann climate protection strategy aims to reduce and avoid CO2 emissions. We cover 100% of our electrical power needs at all European production locations with purchased green electricity.
We also apply many other measures to reduce our consumption and save more than 75000 tonnes of CO2 each year. We work with ClimatePartner to offset the emissions that we do generate by supporting certified climate protection projects.

Robust dock levellers

Sustainability and quality go hand in hand. Dock levellers have to withstand the rough day-to-day loading environment. For this reason, all components are manufactured using high-quality materials.
The design of all dock levellers corresponds to EN 1398 and, with regard to loading capacity, is dimensioned generously.

Particularly sturdy flat anchors, ventilation slots in the edge bracket and screwable adjustment angles ensure reliable fixing in the building structure, one of the most important prerequisites for a long service life.

Energy-efficient loading houses

With a loading house, the dock leveller is mounted right in front of the hall. This means that the hall opening can be closed off energy-efficiently with an industrial door.
As early as the quotation phase, we are able to provide static calculations defining the maximum wind and snow loads for Hörmann loading houses.

Any unevenness in the floor can easily be compensated for using adjustable feet.

Flexible dock seals and shelters

Dock seals and shelters are particularly efficient when they are optimally adapted to the docking vehicles and the loading situation. This requires a wide range of flexible solutions.
Robust push-in flap dock shelters with different frame constructions prevent damage during docking.
Inflatable dock seals adjust to different vehicle dimensions.

Roll-up flaps compensate for larger height differences between vehicles.
Dock seals and shelters with telescopic link arms or rising roof constructions are recommended to compensate for vehicle movements or when setting down swap containers.

Compatible control systems

From development to production, all Hörmann door and dock leveller controls come from the same source, making them optimally matched to each other. As a result, you benefit from a uniform operating concept with standardised housing sizes and the same cable sets for dock levellers and operator controls.

Another advantage: If the dock leveller control is placed beneath the operator control, both controls can be combined into a single compact unit.

Smart initial start-up, smart operation

The Hörmann BlueControl app enables the commissioning, service and maintenance of Hörmann industrial doors and dock levellers with the series 500 controls. It connects to the control on site via Bluetooth and displays its settings clearly in plain text the service technician. Status, error and diagnostic data of the system are read out together with the corresponding time stamps and can be viewed at a glance on the mobile device. For new installations, templates with all parameters can be created for individual doors and copied to identical systems – for quick and easy initial start-up.

The Hörmann NetControl gateway can be used to intelligently network several series 500 industrial door and dock leveller controls and integrate them into local networks. NetControl provides digital access to all relevant data, such as the status of the doors and dock levellers, error messages, cycles, opening times and maintenance instructions. This enables service calls to be planned in advance, reduces downtimes and optimises operating processes.
